The Walstein Alto Flute has Straight and Curved head joints for different tonal quality As well as making the alto flute easier to hold for those with slightly shorter arms, the curved head joint can provide different tonal characteristics - this will, as with all things, vary according to player and embouchure.
The keys are French-Style (pointed) key arms for even pad distribution and more effective pad sealing "French Pointed Key Arms" - basically this means that the key has a pointed "arm" extending to the center on the pad cup - it is soldered on to the middle of the cup rather than made in one piece or soldered to the edge. This form of construction is thought to be stronger and more stable: the key is pressed in the center of the key rather then the edge.
