The Bauhaus Walstein Slide Trumpet ( sometimes known as a mini trombone) plays in the same register as the Bb trumpet (one octave higher than the Bb trombone) and takes a regular trumpet mouthpiece. It is very light, and while not the most serious of instrument choices it can be a good starter instrument especially for smaller people - light, easy to manage, and fun to play, used occasionally for Jazz work, sometimes orchestral, an inexpensive way to start and highly portable.

This is essentially a tenor trombone, but a slightly more compact one which allows beginning students to play certain notes without having to fully extend the slide - a boon for the shorter armed. The slide positions are identical to those of a normal Bb trombone, so nothing additional need be learnt there. However, as well as being smaller the Bb/C has a rotor valve, called variously a "whole-tone" or "ascending rotor" valve which enables the use of alternate slide positioning in order to play notes that would otherwise require full extension of the slide.
